Hound of Shadow.
Is it just an old story mothers told their kids? A story to scare children?

I think not.
The Hound of Shadows are very much alive. They are undead beasts born on the Plane of Shadow.
They supporting the Lord Shadow is a mutual understanding, nothing more. Most of the time, they act out of their own need.

They are huge skeletal dog-like beasts. They are constantly shrouded in a dark shadow.
With their two large emerald eyes shining through the darkness, they can see through any darkness, and know a characters background in a blink.

They currently number 6 in total. Before The Great War they were 7, but Sagthor The Unleached was annihilated during The Great War.
If need be, they can all be very dangerous adversaries. Together, six of them killed a Lesser Deity; The Demonlord.
Their mere presence can bring down even a strong willed warrior to his knees. The beasts shadow aura shills anyone down to the bones.

Most of the time the beasts act out of their own selfish need, wether it be to harm or help someone.
They are not neccessarily evil or deadly for everyone. They are quite chaotic in their nature. They could destroy a village for the fun, and the next day save a village from a disaster.

They are not always in phase with their lord regarding different decisions.
Complications have arisen between the beasts and the lord himself, which have caused great pain to the innocent.
